Description

This dataset includes information of bird sampling events which were made during 2023 as part of biodiversity conservation actions done by Total Austral, The objective of the surveys is to monitor the different fauna assemblages present in the sites in order to detect possible impacts on diversity of the company´s activity in the area. Every year the survey is repeated covering two seasons: high or peak season and low season, the high being spring-summer and the low during autumn- winter, asocciated with more high and low temperatures respectively.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 7 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Geographic Coverage

The surveys were made in areas which are part of Aguada Pichana Este, an operational site of the oil and gas company, Total Austral. The site was studied within three environmental units called: Quebradas y Cañadones (QyC), which means ravines and canyons, Planicie Arbustiva (PA) which means bushy plain and Bajada Aluvial (BA), which means alluvial floodslope.

Title Birdlife monitoring survey low season 2023

Sampling Methods

In the three environmental units described, 10 transects were defined, 5 in the QYC area, 4 in the PA area and one in the BA area. The transect of each observation is specified in the column "Location ID" where this information is summarised. e.g: RCZA-MD-4. This code specifies, firstly the site in which the observation was made (RCZA), then the environmental unit within the site (MD) and finally the transect number (4)

Study Extent The survey was developed in three environmental units already detailed in the geographic coverage section.

Method step description:

  1. The proposed transects were traversed on foot by two observers, georeferencing the findings and specifying, as far as possible, the life stage of the individuals (juveniles, adults, and sex). Ornithological binoculars, cameras with interchangeable telephoto lenses and semi-reflex were used, and recordings or ‘playbacks’ with songs and vocalizations of the species of interest were executed in each of them.
